Altruist Daffodil is a small-cupped daffodil with beautiful copper/yellow petals and a dark red cup. This beautiful combination blooms in mid-Spring and works beautifully as a cut flower.

Daffodils are loved for their long reliability in the garden. They are deer, squirrel, chipmunk, and rabbit resistant, which makes them a top choice for low-maintenance gardens. Plant Altruist Daffodil with mid to late blooming varieties of tulips like Queen of Night Tulips or Atilla Graffiti Tulips

    When to plant daffodils?

Plant Daffodils in fall when daytime temperatures are in the 60's during the day or lower. Plant Daffodils before the ground freezes sold in winter.

    How to plant daffodil bulbs?

Plant Daffodil bulbs 6-8" deep with the pointed end facing the sky. Fill the planting hole back in with soil to cover the daffodil bulbs. Water the bulbs in after the initial planting. Avoid watering after the planting as they prefer to be dry in winter.

    Where to plant daffodil bulbs?

Plant Daffodil bulbs in well drained soil. Plant in full to part sun. If the area is sunny in spring but shaded in summer from trees, Daffodils will grow well there.

    Bouquet Planting Daffodils

For a full bouquet appearance plant 5 bulbs per one 10-12" wide planting hole. The bulbs can be planted 1-2" from each other in this larger hole.

What to do when your daffodils are done blooming?

The flower stems can be removed once the blooms have faded. Keep the leaves intact until they yellow, wither and can easily be removed from the soil. The leaves gather energy from the sun after the blooms fade to provide energy for the next seasons blooms. Keep the bulbs dry during summer, as they prefer dry conditions when dormant.

Great customer service - bulbs were problematic

    Cons:
Only about 2/3 of these Altruist bulbs were viable (ordered in Oct received in Nov). This was the only variety I had problems with and I bought over 700 daffodil bulbs of various varieties in Fall. I contacted customer service and they sent me a replacement bag at no cost/quick shipping and no questions (but I did provided photos in my request for replacements). Only 1/2 of the replacement bulbs were viable, mostly dried out dust shells, but some were mushy. In all I was made whole and easy to get replacements.

    Best Price Seen for Altruist

    Cons:
As an avid gardener I've searched for exceptional looking flowers for Spring for many years. I found Altruist at lease 5 years ago, but the price prohibited me from buying them. Even at Tulip World's full price, they cost less than any other offers I've seen, so I took a chance. At the first sale price they were worth the risk of buying them from a company I had not worked with before. The bulbs were larger than expected, so I was thrilled when I saw the package. Unfortunately, 9 of the 25 were of poor quality, mushy or extremely dried out, so I felt I had to toss them, but the 16 I had left were still a bargain compared to what other companies charge and were large and very viable.

I must thank Tulip World for packaging in groups of 25 instead of 10 like many vendors do. It makes a loss acceptable, if you still have enough for a decent grouping, and paid the same as you might for the smaller group from another vendor.
